AZIZ RAJ

Hello there!  My name is Aziz Raj, naam tho sunah hoga? ;). I am a 21 year old  International Business/Marketing student from Calgary AB, Canada currently in the 4th year of my degree. I am also an aspiring calligrapher, videographer, and photographer with a strong passion for travel.

This love that I have for travel and different calligraphic styles/languages is what ultimately inspired me to create AzizSpeaks a personal brand that embodies all of these elements. I am currently studying in Hirakata Japan and most of the current content will be about my experiences here. As you can guess that is why the first series is called Aziz Speaks 日本語 (Nohingo ][ Japanese). Following suit if I were to travel to somewhere like Dubai for example, then the series would be called Aziz Speaks العَرَبِيَّة (Arabic). Hopefully there will be many more series to come! The styles and methods of my posts will vary as I think of new and creative ways to tell my stories, but for the most part it will be some concoction of videos, written blogs, and photographs.

It is interesting actually  because this all started with Instagram, an app I first downloaded because of the cool filters. It was a place I would post the most useless and random photographs in the world, but I always made sure I had a good caption, usually some form of a Rumi quote. Then one day my older brother gave me a gift, my very own DSLR camera (he had bought a bigger and better one so I got his hammy downs as usual) but what he told me that day really shaped the way I looked at capturing photos/videos and any creative process really.  He told me "Never take a photo for the hell of it, make sure there is always a story behind the shot." This is what led to the concept of "Words translated into Photographs" on my IG account and now it has evolved into so much more. Feel free to contact me and give me feedback about my content and I hope you enjoy! I think it is quite appropriate to end with a Rumi quote :

Study me as much as you like, you will not know me, for I differ in a hundred ways from what you see me to be. Put yourself behind my eyes and see me as I see myself, for I have chosen to dwell in a place you cannot see.
